SuBo comes in second

What a fickle bunch the British public are.  One minute Susan Boyle is the darling of the people, after just five minutes on the TV show 'Britain's Got Talent'.  A few weeks later, and she is beaten into second place in the final of the ITV show by the street dance act 'Diversity'.

Susan Boyle has had over 100m views of her initial performance on YouTube, yet still couldn't win in a public vote.

Mouse is sure there's a moral to this story, but can't quite work out what it is yet.

  1. The moral is don't get too big for your boots - and the World media hyped her up, not Britain!!

  2. The moral is that the British public vote on what they like, not on media hype.

  3. I thought her reaction on the night was great, very gracious in defeat, and still looked like she was having a great time. Good for her. I'm glad for her sake she didn't win, and has been spared all the celebrity nonsense that comes with it.

  4. I'm not sure what the moral is either - though I think that it's interesting that the leader of Diversity was busy preparing his "congratulations" speech to Susan Boyle while Ant and Dec were building up the suspense, and was genuinely shocked to win. Maybe there's something there for those of us who expect not to come first in life. (I also think that Susan Boyle, though a competent singer, only became a success because she isn't conventionally good looking, which has short-lived shock value in a culture that equates physical attractiveness with personal worth. But then again I love dance acts and am hopelessly biased)
